EFFECTS OF LOW CALCIUM FLY ASH ON SULFATE RESISTANCE OF OPC CEMENT
Low calcium fly ash is a good pozzolan to improve sulfate resistance of ordinary portland cement (opc). Beneficial effects produced by this pozzolan on opc are studied in the present paper. Results of sulfate resistance evaluated by Koch & Steinegger method are presented for four opc + fly ash cements. The changes in mineralogical composition of mortar are analysed by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive analysis of x-ray (edax). Fly ash addition delays ettringite formation-cracking phenomenon and decreases the acid attack. (TRRL)
