THE EFFECT ON TRAFFIC ACCIDENT CONSEQUENCES CAUSED BY TRAFFIC ENVIRONMENT DESIGN. A KNOWLEDGE-REVIEW
TRAFIKMILJOENS INVERKAN PAA KONSEKVENSERNA VID TRAFIKOLYCKOR. KUNSKAPSREDOVISNING
This study deals with the importance of the traffic environment design particularly where accidents occur and the vehicles leave the road. The main objective was to investigate consequences in built-up areas where the speed is lower but the number of obstacles in the road-side are is larger. A literature survey on earlier studies in this field of interest has been made. Local authorities, the Swedish roads department, insurance companies, car manufacturers and university researchers have been interviewed. The study shows that off-the-road accidents and injury-scale depending on the roadside area design has not been sufficienty investigated. (TRRL)
