ROADBASE OF FLY ASH AND CEMENT BOUND SAND. GUIDANCE FOR THE DESIGN AND THE CONSTRUCTION

BAERELAG AF FLYVEASKE- OG CEMENTBUNDET SAND (FCS). VEJLEDNING I PROJEKTERING OG UDFOERELSE

Fly ash and cement bound sand can be used as a basecourse. The report gives the technical background for the working specifications published by the national road laboratory in 1983: "general working specification" and "special working specification for sand stabilized with fly ash and cement, possibly lime". Furthermore, an instruction in the planning and construction of fly ash and cement bound sand is given. The instruction discusses the planning, required quality for materials, pre-testing and test section. Special importance is attached to laboratory tests and the test section on site, since this is not a standard product but a basecourse adapted to the local sand materials available. The laboratory tests include optimization of filler and compressive strength testing. The fly ash used must be of high quality. Lime in the form of hydrated lime can be used as additional binder together with cement. Mixes prepared at plant as well as in situ can be used. The instruction gives practical proposals for solutions for many operations. (Author/TRRL)
