COMPOSITE CONCRETE BRIDGE SUPERSTRUCTURES
The report reviews the development in the UK of composite bridge superstructure design using precast, pre-tensioned, bridge beams, as an alternative to in situ deck construction. Such designs are said to have shown high durability characteristics and required minimal expenditure for maintenance and repair. Despite certain standardised aspects of such designs, typical constructions offer scope for flexibility and innovation as shown by a number of applications which are described. See also IRRD 821251.
