RESIDUALS ARE NO REFUSE (ANYMORE): WASTE GRANULATES

RESTEN ZIJN GEEN AFVAL (MEER): PUINGRANULATEN

Waste granulates are materials which become available through the building of houses, public utilities, road construction and hydraulics. By selective demolishing and adequate processing it is possible to prepare aggregates of the waste material in any desired grading. In this publication the CROW working group A1 gives an account of the research on waste granulates. A joint research project of the road and hydraulic engineering division of rijkswaterstaat and the Delft university of technology intended to characterize unbound and light-bound stone mixtures by material parameters which have a direct relationship with the functioning of the basecourses. The CROW working group took up with this research. The research proved that the accepted test methods of stone for granular basecourses do not give an insight into the properties which are important for the behaviour inside the pavement. Functional material properties which do give an insight are the elastic and plastic stiffness. The working group presents guidelines for waste granulates as a high-quality granular basecourse material. (TRRL)
