This handbook is published in two parts. This book, part I, deals with traffic policy, traffic studies, traffic demand, traffic flow, network planning, traffic safety and environmental effects. The primary importance in part II is in highway and street design and pavement design. Traffic control, parking, public transport, rail traffic, water traffic and air traffic are also handled in their own chapters. This handbook is written for experts working with highways and traffic as well as in national and local offices as in consulting firms and building companies, and for students. In all 52 specialists as writers have given their knowledge to develope the Finnish highway and traffic planning into a more uniform, functional and economic way to protect the environment at the same time.
