A DOUBLING DESIGN: ROCHESTER'S EXPANDING AIRPORT
The article describes how a new airport is being built in Rochester, New York on the same congested site as the current airport, and will offer twice the space. The construction will be completed in 30 months. To meet the schedule, the contractor has created a construction phasing program that allows the new airport to be built while the existing terminal continues to operate. A 2-level, 22-gate terminal that will double space and still permit future expansions was also designed. The location of the new airport and details of the phasing plan are described. Materials for the new terminal were selected with construction phasing and terminal expansion in mind.
