SUGGESTED GRADUATE CURRICULA FOR FUTURE TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERS. AN ITE INFORMATIONAL REPORT
Suggestions for transportation engineering curricula are presented which are based on questionnaire responses from 54 recent graduates, 82 supervisors of recent graduates, and 46 educators representing 46 different institutions. It was determined that a flexible graduate program composed of required and elective courses, as well as opportunities for independent study and cooperative education assignments may better serve the needs of individual students than would a more rigidly structured program. Such a program will place a greater burden on educators and advisors, but will provide the graduate with the education and skills necessary for the job market. Students entering the graduate program should be tested for technical writing skils, public speaking, and logic. Additional courses could then be specified to enhance week areas. Universities should consider offering specific courses at both the basic and advanced levels. These and other recommendations are discussed.
