THE ENGINEER'S NIGHTMARE--BEING DEPOSED IN A PERSONAL INJURY CASE

Daniel S. Turner, Professor and Head of the Civil Engineering Department, University of Alabama, presented a paper entitled "Giving a Deposition in a Highway Negligence Case" at the January 1990 annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board. His paper gives an excellent summary, for lay persons, of the discovery process and what the engineer and others should expect in a deposition, as well as guidance on how to prepare and present testimony. The twenty-five page paper gives a list of hints for giving testimony. Some of those hints are summarized in this article.
