PEDAL-CYCLISTS AT ROUNDABOUTS
Roundabouts have a good overall safety record compared with other types of junction. However, these safety benefits do not apply to all classes of road user; two-wheeled vehicles have relatively high accident involvement rates at some types of roundabouts. This, combined with the high vulnerability of their riders, justifies further study of accident causation at roundabouts and remedial treatments. This article concentrates on pedal-cyclists at roundabouts and reviews the existing information on accidents, risk of accident involvement, types of conflict, effects of roundabout geometry and remedial treatments.
