THE USE OF POLYMERS IN CONCRETE - CURRENT STATE OF THE ART
DIE GEBRUIK VAN POLIMERE IN BETON - DIE HUIDIGE STAND VAN SAKE
The purpose of this paper is to present the state of the art situation of the use of polymers in concrete. Different types of polymer concrete are described and the problems associated with each, highlighted. The advantages and disadvantages of polymers in concrete are compared and it is concluded that polymers supplied by agencies should be thoroughly tested under service conditions before use. The different applications of polymer concrete are discussed and it is shown that there is a need for the development of a polymer technology so that polymers could be used properly, and with confidence, while quality assurance can be applied with greater understanding. Risks should be limited by preferring machines to control the processes, rather than humans to control them manually. (TRRL)
