TECHNICAL NOTE: FILTER FOR REMOVING CANCER-CAUSING COMPOUNDS FROM EXHAUST FUMES (UK PATENT GB 2 177 078 B)

The article describes the formation and action of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) formed by contamination of air in various industrial places where vehicles, or engines from other sources, are operated or maintained. The article then describes the use of catalytic and scrubbing systems for removing contaminants from the air. In accordance with such equipment an invention is detailed which describes a novel scrubbing material for absorbing particulate and gaseous pollutants. The material used is a noble-metal catalyst free material comprising a filtering mass of dry porous pellets within a clay binder. (TRRL)
