DIMENSIONS OF AUTOMOBILE DEMAND. NATIONAL ENERGY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM; END OF GRANT REPORT

The dimensions of automobile demand project has developed a set of empirical econometric models of the household sector's demand for automobiles (by number and type) and the rate of vehicle utilisation. Static and dynamic versions of the models are used to assess the role of a wide range of variables in vehicle choice and use decisions. The data are drawn from a four wave panel of Sydney households and a newly compiled file of vehicle attributes. The output of the study represents the first comprehensive investigation in Australia of the relationship between automobile ownership, use and energy consumption in the household sector.
