KNOW-HOW FLOWS FROM HYDRO SCHEMES
Water power structures, mining practices and testing procedures were the three main themes of the 38th Geomechanik-Kolloquium 1989 held in Salzburg. Some of the most brillant minds in these areas assembled to share new techniques and their knowledge. Dr. Harald Laufer spoke on pressure tunnels and shaft construction with regard to alpine hydroelectric power schemes while other discussions focused on both lined and unlined tunnels such as the unlined closed surge chambers in Norway, shaft construction using raised-boring, a new automatic device, the directional drilling technique system and a precise 3D measuring method of convergencies during NATM tunnel drives which could be used in conjunction with sensor-readings of a tunnel boring machine to bring about the most accurate results.
