CALIFORNIA WATER DATABASE
This article discusses the development of California's Water Data Information System (WDIS). Built with the Ingres relational database management system from Ingres Corporation, Alameda, California, it runs on a distributed network of heterogeneous personal computers and high-resolution Apollo workstations located throughout the state. The system is specifically designed to promote consistency between state users, local water districts, and Federal agencies such as the U.S. Geological Survey and the Environmental Protection Agency.
