This is the discussion of a paper of the above title by R.R. Rao, H. Rahardjo, and D.G. Fredlund published in Volume 114, No. 5 (May 1988) of this journal. The discusser presents a solution procedure which is simpler and less confusing than that proposed by the authors, and gives the genuine closed form solutions stated in the paper.
