A MARKETING PLAN FOR THE SOUTHWEST IOWA TRANSIT SYSTEM
The Southwest Iowa Transit Agency (SWITA) operates under the auspices of the Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO) and serves the counties of Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby, which are within the boundaries of Planning Region XIII. Since provisions for handicapped individuals are incorporated in most future contracts for transit service, the emphasis of a marketing plan are to be directed towards the elderly and the general public who are difficult to reach and who have very little knolwedge of available services. Surveys were conducted of area media outlets and other transit systems in order to ascertain the best methods to employ. The ultimate goal is to determine a cost effective marketing approach which will improve the system's visibility and name recognition and continue to disseminate information to the public while increasing ridership.
