A SPEED MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR VICTORIA

In June 1986 the Board of the Road Traffic Authority established a Task Force to examine all aspects of speed management and to propose an overall strategy for the future, together with an integrated package of measures. The Task Force consisted of representatives from relevant State Government agencies, local government engineers, motorist organisations, researchers, the medical profession and the Authority's Road Safety Board. Representatives from the New South Wales Traffic Authority and the Federal Office of Road Safety also participated. In addition to its broad review, the Task Force was requested to examine the case for a speed limit of 110 km/h on freeways and to give special attention to speed management on arterial roads. This publication presents the results of the task force analysis and the proposed recommendations and funding requirements.
