IMPROVED LIGHTING OF TAXIWAY/TAXIWAY INTERSECTIONS FOR INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES (IFR) OPERATIONS

A new visual aid to advise pilots that a taxiway/taxiway inter section is being approached was developed at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center. Subject pilots were asked to comment on the effectiveness of the new elevated taxiway intersection lights. Results of the evaluation indicate that the lights provide adequate advance warning of the approaching taxiway/taxiway intersection and an indication of where to stop to ensure clearance from aircraft using the intersecting taxiway.
