THE NORTH CAROLINA CHILD PASSENGER PROTECTION LAW: IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION, JULY 1982 - JUNE 1985

The North Carolina Child Passenger Protection Law (G.S. 20-137.1) was enacted by the North Carolina General Assembly on July 3, 1981 and became effective as of July 1, 1982. This report provides a review of its basic provisions, followed by an evaluation of the effects it has had on the safety of North Carolina children. Several sources of data were analyzed to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the law. These included parking lot observational surveys, weekly accident summaries, and telephone interviews.
