The first half of this book provides an extensive treatment of transportation planning. This includes details of: the United States transportation system; the operation and control of the vehicles that use the transport systems (this includes sections on human factors, operational characteristics, and traffic control procedures and devices); data collection procedures, mathematical and computer modelling, traffic impact studies, and procedures for the development and evaluation of transportation plans. The latter half of the book deals with the design of facilities that serve transportation by land, sea, or air. This includes the design of streets and highways, railways and guideway systems.
