PILOT STUDY OF ALCOHOL USE OF CAR DRIVERS, MOPED RIDERS AND CYCLISTS 1987

PILOT ONDERZOEK ALCOHOLGEBRUIK VAN AUTOMOBILISTEN, BROMFIETSERS EN FIETSERS 1987

Ever since the 1970's a periodical research has been carried out in the Netherlands into the drinking and driving behaviour of car drivers during the evenings and nights at weekends. The last survey was held in 1987 and this time an additional survey was carried out into the drinking and driving behaviour on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by moped riders and cyclists as well as by motorists. Results of the research show that car drivers also use alcohol during weekday nights, and police surveillance should be aimed at those hours which are alcohol black spots. The use of alcohol by moped riders and cyclists, particularly younger people, is rather extensive and therefore the need for further research is emphasized. (TRRL)
