ALCOHOL AND BRAIN FUNCTION. CHANGES OF CALCITONIN-LEVEL AFTER CONSUMPTION OF LOW DOSES OF ALCOHOL. WOMEN, ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND TRAFFIC. PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP SEPTEMBER 29-30, 1988, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

The study investigated the effect of ethanol on the plasma calcitonin (CT) concentrations in 4 women and 5 men. After consumtpion of low doses of alcohol (10 g per os) blood was obtained at 30 min intervals up to 12 hrs. The blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) were determined by gas chromatography. The concentrations of CT were measured by radioimmunoassay. The value of plasma-CT changed after ethanol consumption and climbed up from 100 pg/ml approximately. Our results indicate also that very low BAC can influence the CT-level.
