ALCOHOL-CRASH PROBLEM. SOCIAL CONTROL OF THE DRINKING DRIVER
This describes the nature and magnitude of the alcohol-crash problem and summarizes what is known - and not known - about its etiology. Section 1 reviews the state of knowledge, and the topics represent well-travelled ground: the pharmacology of beverage alcohol, the effects of alcohol on driving, alcohol and the risk of crash involvement, and the magnitude of the alacohol-crash problem. Emphasis is placed, however, on identifying important questions that research has not yet answered. Section 2 addresses the issue of perspective - how one conceptualizes the alcohol-crash problem. Finally, section 3 discusses implications of present knowledge for the social control of drinking and driving.
