The paper reviews the historical development of wooden bridges, lateral and longitudinal bridge disposition and future use of wooden bridges for pedestrian, road and railway traffic. It points to the fact that the development of the technology of wood processing and the construction of girders have contributed to a larger use of wooden bridges.
