WORK IN PROGRESS ON THE FATIGUE STRENGTH OF WELDED JOINTS IN JAPAN-JUNE 1975

A survey of work in progress on the fatigue strength of welded joints in Japan was made on the basis of replies to a questionnaire distributed to members of the Brittle and Fatigue Fractures Study Committee (Chairman: Professor T. Kanazawa) of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan. The survey covers, in the main, research works of welded steel joints and welded steel structures, but closely related works, for instance studies on fatigue crack propagation in a base metal, are involved too. In the following it is attempted to classify the work into two categories, fatigue crack initiation and fatigue crack propagation. However, a few works which cover both categories are classified into either one in compliance with the main object of research. Any research work in the following is described in the order of title, abstract and name of research worker in charge.
