AN EVALUATION PROCEDURE FOR RIGID AIRFIELD PAVEMENTS. PROCEEDINGS, 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONCRETE PAVEMENT DESIGN AND REHABILITATION, PURDUE UNIVERSITY, APRIL 18-20, 1989

A method is presented for rigid pavement evaluation using the elastic layer theory with Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) data to assess the structural capacity of heavily loaded airfield pavements. Also presented are methods to: (1) determine the number of tests required; (2) consider load transfer at joints; (3) reduce data to a manageable amount for analysis; (4) backcalculate layer moduli; and (5) determine allowable aircraft loads. The Air Force is now committed to the elastic-layered method of pavement analysis. Rigid and flexible pavement design manuals based on this method are scheduled for publication, and an evaluation guide for determining pavement capacity with the FWD is currently being developed.
