AVI TAGS RAILROADS FOR EFFICIENCY
While the Association of American Railroads (AAR) has drafted proposed standards for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) compatible with those of the ISO (International Standards Organization), railroads are testing AVI systems on their own to be able to provide input for definite standards. Tagging rail vehicles serves many purposes among which are included train location, locomotive management, radio-based signaling, automatic route selection and vehicle management.
