UNIFIED RISK INSURANCE: AN UPDATE

Two conferences, an Engineering Foundation Conference on structural failures in 1983 and another in 1987, and a publication, 'Quality in the Constructed Project' are noted, and the background to unified risk insurance is described. A 1985 'Proposed Program of Construction Insurance' presented by the author is described. This proposal relies upon the internal mechanism of the construction project to provide the framework for the voluntary risk-transfer mechanism. Disputes, construction-liability policy, course-of-construction policy, and postconstruction insurance policy are discussed. It is noted that the leading nation in advancing construction insurance is France. The French system with its 3 types of coverages is described.
