ADJUSTABLE TRENCH SHORES SPEED WATER MAIN PROJECT
Hydraulically actuated shores supported trench walls for placing more than 7500 ft of 24-in.-diameter, steel-lined, concrete cylinder pipe along a San Antonio, Texas, frontage road. Concrete backfill was placed over the new water main before blacktopping with asphalt. A Koehring 666 hydraulic excavator with a 36-in.-wide, 1.5 cu yd bucket routinely dug the 7- to 8-ft-deep, 3-ft-wide trench in soft ground. Spoil was windrowed on the pavement while one lane of traffic squeezed by the work zone.
