NIGHT WORK FIGURES IN MARYLAND MILLING. ASPHALT RECYCLING AND RECLAIMING SPECIAL REPORT
A 'total removal' concept is being used on a 3.2-mile cold milling project on I-270 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The details of the project are described, and it is noted that using a minimum amount of equipment, total asphalt roads and highway can be milled to the base, and machines that feature conveyors can significantly reduce cleanup operations. Sixteen inches of asphalt that constituted the original roadway were removed in preparation for placement of a new asphalt road. Milling was done between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Working at night did not hamper productivity.
