FUEL TRANSPORT--THE FLEXITANK ALTERNATIVE
The use of flexitanks fitted inside standard containers to carry fuel, as an alternative to normal tanker vehicles, has proved to be useful innovation in one land-locked country, Malawi in Southern Africa. The main advantage is that non-specialized rail and road vehicles carrying fuel can return with payloads of non-fuel cargo, instead of an empty backhaul. As the distances and costs are relatively large, the opportunity for cost savings is correspondingly important.
