WHO RIDES? A LOOK AT THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION
Ridership and trip designation information was obtained from 107 transportation providers designating themselves as rural public, rural specialized or urban specialized providers. Basic findings were that high percentages of women, elderly and those using mobility aids patronized these systems and that a good percentage of trips were made for medical reasons or to senior centers, nutrition sites, and employment/sheltered workshops.
