TRANSPORTATION LINKS UNEMPLOYED CITY RESIDENTS WITH TRAINING AND JOBS
Connecticut, a state with an unemployment rate of 4 percent, has embarked upon a program which provides diverse employment and training opportunities to unemployed city residents who are transportation disadvantaged called the Employment Transportation Service. The service which is a component of a city agency responsible for planning paratransit operations, can be generated by a non-profit job-search agency or an employer, provides for free rides to job interviews, plant tours, testing and orientation at potential employment sites in the suburbs and transitional transportation service for newly-employed individuals, charging a token fare to regular users. Funding is achieved through joint ventures with employers and other sources.
