GIFT WRAPPED METRO IS SAFE FROM GAS AND QUAKES
Traffic congestion problems in the Los Angeles area have led to the city's finally investing in a major integrated rapid transit system. The first line, the Red Line is under construction. Construction considerations such as geological conditions, hazardous materials such as chemical wastes, dangerous gases, and earthquake faults had to be addressed in planning the location as well as the design of the underground structures. Details of the various tunneling materials, equipment and methods are given.
