ON STATIC MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF NORMAL-WEIGHT CONCRETE
A study is reported which examined the value of concrete modulus of elasticity based on laboratory test results. The Young's modulus observed is compared with the value used by ACI-318 (ACI; Building code 1983) and those reported by others. The results suggest that Young's modulus of high-strenth concrete has a somewhat higher value than that of normal-strength concrete. Details of the experimental study and results are discussed. It is noted that Pauw's equation for modulus of elasticity of concrete which is based on experimental normal-strength concrete needs to be reexamined. These and other observations are discussed.
