KANSAS COUNTY PUTS BINDWEED IN BIND
Noxious bindweed infestation is being controlled with a high-tech combination of herbicide and computerized spray control in Sedgewick county, Kansas. Computerized equipment and a low-rate treatment program using Tordon herbicide plus 2,4-D have controlled bindweed while minimizing the risks of pesticide drift. The computer eliminates operator error: the sprayers are calibrated to deliver 20 gallon/acre at 12 mph. The monitor will beep when this speed is exceeded, and adjust the flow to maintain the preset rate. It also reads how many gallons have been used.
