DETERMINATION OF SLAB THICKNESS IN SUSPENDED POST-TENSIONED FLOOR SYSTEMS

A simple expression is presented for the maximum span-to-depth ratio of post-tensined concrete floor systems. The expression provided an initial estimate of the minimum slab thickness required to limit deflection to some preselected value and forms the basis of a design approach for serviceability. The procdueure is an extension of the deemed-to-comply span-to-depth ratios for reinforced concrete slabs that form part of deflection control provisions in the new Australian Standard for Concrete Structures, AS3600-1988. The procdeure described in the paper is illustrated by several numerical examples.
