ASYMMETRICAL BUCKLING OF PRESTRESSED TAPERED ARCHES
A study is reported in which asymmetric buckling and postbuckling behavior of prestressed arches with different cross-sectional forms were investigated and provided additional data on symmetric behavior. It was found that symmetric limit loads of tapered-out arches with tapering angle (psi less than 1.230 deg) and asymmetric limit loads of tapered-in arches are higher than their equivalent prismatic arches. Also, for tapered-in arches with psi less than 3.343 deg, asymmetric buckling does not occur with symmetry being the controlling behavior.
