MAINTENANCE NOTEBOOK
This article presents the results of an interview with Joe Brown, Equipment Superintendent, APAC-Alabama, concerning maintenance of asphalt pavers. He advises that pavers should be kept adjusted and greased. The only wearing parts that should be left to break during the season are hoses, which will last longer with good preventive maintenance and if they are of high quality. Abrasion with paving material causes the most paver wear, so maintenance should focus on material-handling components. Grease should be applied to material-handling components' unsealed bearings when the machine is warmed up. Strikeoff plate adjustment, slack in feeder chains and slack in drive chains are among the most critical adjustments on basic pavers.
