A STUDY ON ENERGY SAVING TRAIN OPERATION METHODS FOR THE SHINKANSEN EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICE

Energy saving train operation methods for the Shinkansen express trains are studied in this paper. In the actual train operation diagram planning for the Shinkansen lines, the passage time of the express train at each nonstop station is determined by supposing a train operation pattern with the constant speed running after the acceleration by the maximum powering and with the train deceleration by iteration of the ATC braking and constant speed running. Firstly, an energy saving train operation method in accordance with the above-mentioned operation diagram is described, showing that the constant speed running, after the train acceleration by the maximum powering, is maintained to the last nonstop station and the same train operation as that of the accommodation train is used in the last section. Secondly, it is made clear that the same energy saving train operation method as that of the accommodation train should be applied to the whole section from the previous train stop to the next one, in the absence of the above-described constrained conditions of passage at nonstop stations. In this train operation method each nonstop station is passed earlier than the conventional train operation method, but the control of an accommodation train, etc. is scarcely influenced.
