POLYNOMIAL REGRESSION TO FORECAST EARTH DAM PIEZOMETER LEVELS
In order to forecast piezometer levels for expected reservoir fluctuation, a relationship is rquired to define the piezometer levels in terms of the reservoir levels. The relationship is defined by using the method of polynomial regression on a data set of piezometer levels and corresponding reservoir levels. Using the polynomial regression relationship, the forecast of piezometer levels for actual reservoir levels of a different data set is performed and the mean square error from the actual measurements is calculated and discussed. A data set of 67 measurements (from the Kremasta earth dam, Greece) and their correspnding reservoir levels are processed to define the polynomial regression relationship, which is then used to forecast the piezometer levels, of a data set of 68 observations of reservoir levels, and define the mean square error of the forecast.
