MECHANICS OF OVERFLOW EROSION ON EMBANKMENTS. II: HYDRAULIC AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
This is the second of a 2-part report which summarizes recent research, development and modifications to provide cost-effective protection for overtoped earth embankments. Data from this research can be appliled to embankment dams, levees, highway and railroad fills, as well as spillways and waterways. This paper reviews some basic factors that significantly influence the erosion process, provides information on actual overtopping cases, and discusses erosion protection systems that have been tested and constructed. Conclusions drawn from the study are presented and discussed.
