STATISTICAL MODEL HELPS RATE PIPELINE INSPECTION SENSORS. DEFECT DETECTION--CONCLUSION

Basic statistical decision methods can help determine the performance of pipeline inspection-tool sensors and make comparisons among various sensing technologies. As long as the equipment designer and manufacturer provide appropriate information about the sensor design, the user of in-line inspection systems no longer need guess which methods and hardware to use. This article, the conclusion of a two part series, presents the application of the probability model to the pipeline-inspection process. The theory on which the probability model is based is presented in part one.
