Tests and analytical studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of NHTSA's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on school bus passenger seating and crash protection (see Federal Register, Vol. 39, No. 147, pp. 27585-27589, Tuesday, July 30, 1974) in reducing the injury potential to the seated occupants in frontal impacts. The study parameters included seat back height and contours, number and size of the occupants, and impact velocity. Recommendations are made on desirable revisions to the NPRM requirements.
