LUBRICATION INSPECTION ADVANCES
Described is the Association of American Railroads' (AAR) friction measuring device, tribometer, which is an adaptation of a British design concept. The tribometer measures friction at any location along the rail head, displays digital readouts of the friction level, and can be removed from the track quickly. Costs are in the $10,000 range and units are supplied to the industry by the AAR.
