MEASUREMENT OF THE PROJECTED FRONTAL AREA OF VEHICLES - A NEW CONTOUR-TRACKING LASER DEVICE IN COMPARISON TO OTHER METHODS
The determination of a vehicle's drag coefficient requires measurements of its aerodynamic resistance and its projected frontal area with high measuring accuracies. The paper gives a description of optical methods for measuring projected areas and details a laser reflection system which operates on a principle similar to that of a light-barrier system but in a reflection mode.
