In this work the possibility of improving the timesettings of traffic signals to reduce exhaust emissions has been studied in five linked intersections in a Swedish town. Simulations have been done with the computer program transyt. The results show that the quantity of air pollution could be reduced by 45-100 tons for a cost of 4-7 millions sek by introducing and improving coordinated traffic signals and by installing a computer based technique called lhovra.
