EXPERIENCES OF A TRAFFIC SAFETY INSPECTOR ---A REPORT ON THE ONE-DAY CONFERENCE ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING 1987
ERVARINGEN VAN EEN VERKEERSVEILIGHEIDSINSPECTEUR
Traffic safety is often the most important factor for the road administrator, but there are many aspects to be considered. If one looks at every day practice, many examples can be given of more or less successful attempts in the battle against the lack of traffic safety. Improvements do not always have to cost much money, sometimes much more safety can be obtained with little. The experiences of a traffic safety inspector are outlined. In the Netherlands there are five traffic safety inspectors, each with their own region. Special attention is given by them to whether the product, the infrastructure, fulfills the requirements of the road user or not. The traffic safety inspector gives advice to the highway planners, designers and administrators on aspects of design, urgency, priority and policy. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 818031.
