SCHOOL TRANSPORT AS A DETERMINANT OF REGIONAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUPPLY IN TWO FRENCH DEPARTEMENTS: NORD AND CALVADOS ---PUBLIC TRANSPORT PLANNING AND OPERATION, PROCEEDINGS OF SEMINAR K HELD AT THE 12TH PTRC SUMMER ANNUAL MEETING, UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX, ENGLAND, 10-13 JULY 1984, VOLUME P253

The author describes two public tranport schemes implemented in the two French departements of the nord and calvados. The schemes are based on the maximum integration of school services and regular bus services. In the calvados departement, it was decided to create an organization (societe des transports du departement du calvados) in charge of the implementation, management and development of public transport services. In the nord departement, free enterprise was selected, and contracts were signed with existing carriers. Details are given of the organization, operation and economic aspects of both schemes. For the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 284761.
